Master's Examinations and Course Requirements
Master's candidates will write any examinations prescribed in individual courses (see also Examination Deferral Policy below) and must pass a final oral examination based upon the thesis or, where required, upon the major research project.
A comprehensive requirement must be met to ensure that master's candidates have a similar graduate experience, possess a breadth of knowledge in their field, and have completed independent library, laboratory, or field research which they have defended orally before members of the faculty. Candidates should consult the appropriate program requirements section of this calendar for the regulations as to how this university requirement must be completed in their department.
