Adding and Dropping Courses
Adding Courses:
- 12-week Terms: A course must be added no later than 10 business days from the beginning of term. This regulation applies to spring term, fall term, and winter term (12-week terms).
- 6-week Terms: A course must be added no later than 5 business days from the beginning of the term. This regulation applies to Intersession, Summer Session, Fall 6-week (first) and Winter 6-week (first).
- Fall 6-week (second): A course must be added no later than three business days before November 1.
- Winter 6-week (second): A course must be added no later than three business days before February 1.
Students should consult the Academic Dates to view the actual dates.
Courses may not be added after the specified deadline date. In exceptional cases a Petitions Committee may grant a petition to waive the regulation.
Consult the Academic Petitions website for more information.
Students may add courses and using LORIS. Students should ensure that a course add has been completed
by checking their academic record on LORIS. Courses adds that cannot be completed using LORIS can be
submitted to Enrolment Services, through the Service Laurier website.
Dropping Courses:
The final dates for withdrawing from courses without penalty of failure are:
| Fall term (12-weeks) |
two-thirds of course, 40th teaching day |
| Winter term (12-weeks) | two-thirds of course, 40th teaching day |
| Fall and Winter (6-weeks, first and second) |
two-thirds of course, 20th teaching day |
| Intersession, Summer Session (6-weeks) |
two-thirds of course, 20th teaching day |
| Spring term (12-weeks) |
two-thirds of course, 40th teaching day |
| Courses of different durations will be pro-rated. |
|
Consult the Academic Dates for the actual dates to drop courses without penalty of failure. If the normal deadline date falls on a Friday, the actual deadline will become the following business day.
Students may drop courses using LORIS. Students should ensure that a course drop has been completed by checking their academic record on LORIS. Courses drops that cannot be completed using LORIS can be submitted to Enrolment Services through the Drop Course Request Form.
Courses may not be dropped after the specified date. In exceptional cases a Petitions Committee may grant a petition to waive the regulation. Consult the Academic Petitions website for more information.
Dropping a Course After the Deadline (Grade of DR): A student may request to drop a course after the last day to drop a course without penalty of failure, but before the start of the exam period. A grade of DR (dropped-failure) will be assigned to the course(s) requested. To make this request, a student may email Enrolment Services (through the Service Laurier website) with the course code and section, and indicate that they accept the grade of DR.
Notes:
- The onus to dropping a course rests solely upon the student. Simply ceasing to attend lectures, even if the instructor is informed, does not formally constitute a dropped course and will result in a failing grade.
- A change from registration for credit to audit must be made no later than the final date for dropping a course without failure. This request can be made by completing the Audit Course Form. The Faculty teaching or department of the course must provide permission for a student to audit a course.
