Ontario Secondary School Applicants

Decisions on admission to Year 1 will normally be based on completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and a minimum of six 4U and/or 4M courses . Laurier will use the top six grades from these courses when calculating the admission average, unless otherwise noted. An overall average of 70% from these six courses is the minimum requirement for admissions consideration. However, a higher average will be required for admission to individual programs in which the demand for places by qualified applicants exceeds the supply of places available in those programs.

All programs require a minimum final overall average of 70.0% unless otherwise stated (as some may require higher final averages). This is outlined on the applicants' official Offer of Admission.

NOTE: A 4U English at a minimum of 60% is required for all programs at Laurier unless otherwise specified. Applicants must also meet program-specific requirements; all required courses, listed below, must be at a minimum of 60% unless otherwise specified.

  1. The length of time taken by an applicant to complete the OSSD will not of itself be a determining factor in the admission decision.
  2. Grade IX Practical combined with grade III Harmony, RCM, or the equivalent, will be accepted as 4M music credit for admission. Submit appropriate documentation to your high school for official conversion.
  3. Wilfrid Laurier University adheres to the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
  4. It is expected that secondary schools will report students' standing to the university through the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) in terms of percentage marks for admission and scholarship selection purposes.
  5. A student who receives an offer of admission based on grade 11, early or mid-term grades, and whose final grades have already been submitted, must still meet final conditions, as stated on their Offer of Admission. The University reserves the right to withdraw its Offer of Admission if these requirements are not completely satisfied. We are continuously sending out offers of admission from the time applications open on the OUAC in October, until late May. Offers are sent out on a rolling basis, based on different academic criteria.
