Diploma in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy
This program is for students who want to build on previous education in psychotherapy, specialize in a particular area of psychotherapy or who require a few more graduate level courses in counselling to meet the competencies required by the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario or other professional certification criteria.
The applicant will normally have completed an undergraduate degree in the Social Sciences (eg. Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, etc) with a minimum of a B average in their final 10 courses. Relevant volunteer or professional experience in the area of human services is recommended.
Students who graduate from the MA in Theology or MDiv degrees and have extra counselling course credits beyond those required for their degree may be eligible to transfer unused earned credits toward the diploma in accordance with the University regulations. Any transferred credit(s) will be documented on the offer of admission.
The Diploma can be completed as a full or part-time student. The Diploma can be completed in a minimum of one year and maximum of two years.
The Diploma consists of six half-credit counselling courses that can be taken from the current WLS course offerings or other faculties at Laurier (with permission of the instructor). All courses within the diploma are elective courses allowing the greatest degree of flexibility for course selection to meet the various needs of students in the diploma. Courses can be selected to meet the particular student's need to fulfill certification requirements focused on areas of personal interest or ongoing professional development. The individual program of study is subject to approval by the Diploma Co-ordinator.
