Diploma in Business Administration

Admission requirements and specific academic regulations for the diploma is outlined in the sections which follow. Note that the last grade received on any course attempt will be used to calculate the Grade Point Average (GPA) and that no course may be attempted more than twice. This rule applies to courses taken at this and other institutions.
The Diploma in Business Administration has been designed to meet the needs of people with work experience in business or government who wish to enhance their skills in the functional areas of administration.
The courses in the program have been selected to give broad coverage of the functional areas of management.
The program is made up of 6.0 credits (5.0 required and 1.0 elective). Courses are offered both online and on-campus. Students may choose the preferred delivery method of each course, pending availability each term. The program is normally completed on a part-time basis but can be completed full-time and will take at least two terms to complete, subject to course availability. Program requirements are given in the following chart.

1. Students must have three years work experience following their most recent formal education OR an undergraduate degree in any discipline except Business or Economics OR a three year college diploma in any discipline except Business or Economics 2. Students may be granted a maximum of four 0.5-credit courses (2.0 credits) towards the diploma for required courses taken prior to admission to the program. If additional courses are considered equivalent to the core or functional courses then the students must enrol in additional electives in order to complete 4.0 credits after admission to the program. College courses will not be considered for transfer credit applicable to the diploma. 3. Once admitted, students must achieve a minimum 6.0 GPA across BU111 and BU127. These courses are pre-requisites to all of the BU required courses of the diploma. Failure to meet this progression requirement will result in withdrawal from the diploma program. |
1. In order to graduate, students must
attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 7.0 (B-). A maximum of two 0.5 credit
courses (1.0 credit) may be repeated after admission to the program. The GPA
will be calculated over all courses completed after admission to the program.
Any courses completed before admission to the program will not be used to
determine graduation GPA. 2. Students must complete a minimum of
4.0 credits at Wilfrid Laurier University after admission to the program. |

Completion of the Diploma in Business Administration, students may
be eligible for the part-time MBA program with the following exclusive waivers
and exemptions:
• GMAT waiver with completion of BU205 (or EC205) with a B+ (9.0) or higher
and a previous undergraduate degree in any discipline except Business or
Economics |

All specified undergraduate courses
must be completed at Laurier to be considered. Courses BU362 and BU393 are only

Students cannot transfer from the
Diploma in Business Administration to the Honours Business Administration BBA
program. Students should familiarize themselves with the REGISTRATION and ACADEMIC
REGULATIONS of Wilfrid Laurier University. Both the
University regulations and the School/Department regulations must be adhered
to. Students who subsequently wish to be registered in a degree program other than BBA may be granted advanced standing subject to senate and faculty regulations. |
