Honours BA Human Rights and Human Diversity in Combination with another Honours BA Program

The Combined Honours BA in Human Rights and Human Diversity is only available at the Brantford Campus. It consists of 20.0 credits of which no more than 7.0 credits may be at the 100 level (6.0 credits if it is combined with a Faculty of Arts program).

Required Courses (7.0 credits)

1. Year 1
HR100 - Human Rights and Human Diversity
HR200 - Human Rights Violations: Advocacy and Analysis

Students are encouraged to enrol in BF190, BF290 and ID120.

Students are also encouraged to consider enrolling in the following courses for the stated reasons:
DMJN101: prerequisite for DMJN/HR214 and DMJN/HR252
HR163: required course for International Development Specialization
ID120: prerequisite for ID201
OL140: i) prerequisite for OL/PD224 (which is required to be taken in second year prior to taking any Conestoga articulations third year); ii) required for Certificate in Non-Profit Career Foundations)

2. Year 2
HR223 - Understanding Public Policy for Issue Advocacy
HR260 - Introduction to Human Rights
HR261 - Multiculturalism
CC233/HS233/OL233 Introduction to Social Science Research Methods
0.5+ HR credits (see points 5 and 6 below).

3. Year 3
HR300 - Professionalization Seminar
HR323/LY323 Rights in Canada: Rights, Freedoms and the Charter
HR328 - The United Nations in the International Community
0.5+ credits HR electives selected from point 5 and 6 below.

Students contemplating graduate studies in professional programs or the social sciences are strongly encouraged to meet with the HRHD Program Coordinator and to take one or more of the following courses as a non-HR elective: CC315/OL315, CC327, CC426, EN303, HS321. [Some of these courses have prerequisites and students may require the permission of the department offering the course in order to enrol].

4. Year 4
HR401 - Philosophy of Human Rights
HR402 - Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Human Rights or HR460 - Special Seminar in Human Rights and Human Diversity
0.5+ HR credits (see points 5 and 6 below).

5. At least 1.0 additional credits of senior HR-designated courses.

6. 0.5 additional senior credits composed of additional HR- designated courses and/or selected from among the following: DMJN204, EN211, EN310, GS223/RE206, HI256, HI271, HI338, HI349, HI375, HI396, HI397, ID201, PP213, RE205. [Students should be aware that some of these courses have prerequisites. Although these prerequisites may be waived by the program or department administering the course, it is the responsibility of the student to make such arrangements].
