Honours BA Spanish

An Honours Bachelor of Arts program consists of a minimum of 20.0 credits, of which at least 14.0 credits must be at the senior level.

Among these credits, the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Spanish program requires 9.0 senior credits from Categories A and B:

A) Language, Linguistics, and Translation:

A minimum of 2.5 and maximum of 6.5 credits from the following:
SP101, SP102, or SP100*;
SP201, SP250, SP288*(counts as 0.5 in A and 0.5 in B);
SP308, SP318;
SP401, SP408, SP451;

At UofW: SPAN290, SPAN301A, SPAN301B, SPAN390, SPAN395, SPAN490.

B) Literature, Culture, and Visual Arts:


A minimum of 2.5 and maximum of 6.5 credits from the following:
SP220, SP223, SP228, SP265, SP266, SP288*(counts as 0.5 in A and 0.5 in B);
SP321, SP325, SP327, SP328;
SP405, SP436, SP446, SP465, SP466, SP496;

At UofW (see Note #2): SPAN150, SPAN329 (exclusion SP265), SPAN217, SPAN218, SPAN326, SPAN387, SPAN400, SPAN410, SPAN430.

C) Degree Program electives:


Remaining credits, to reach a minimum total of 20.0 credits overall, from additional Spanish courses or other areas of the department and university. These credits may form part of another program, option or minor.

Program Notes

  1. Students with OAC or Grade 12U Spanish must replace SP100*, or both SP101 and SP102 with 1.0 senior credit in Spanish. 
  2. Among the 9.0 minimum senior from Categories A and B, students may only take a maximum of 1.0 credit of courses taught in English (SP220 at Laurier and SPAN courses at UW). Consult with the Languages and Literatures Undergraduate Officer regarding UW course options, prerequisites, and exclusions.
