Medical Foundations
The Medical Foundations Partnership Option ensures that students have met academic requirements to participate in our existing Laurier-established medical school partnerships but does not guarantee admission into medical school. Obtaining the Medical Foundations Partnership Option does not obligate students to apply to medical school or to attend medical school if an offer of admission is provided from one of our partner schools.
While the Medical Foundations Partnership Option with a completed Bachelor’s degree and GPA requirements meet some Canadian medical school’s minimum admission requirements, it is solely the responsibility of students to review Canadian medical school admissions requirements if planning on applying to Canadian medical schools.
It is recommended that students consult an Academic Advisor to map the best approach to completing the Medical Foundations Partnership Option with their degree program, particularly if students are registered in a three-year program or the Medical Foundations Partnership Option comprises mostly elective courses in their degree program.
St. George’s University School of Medicine (SGU)
St. George’s University School of Medicine Partnership does not require Laurier applicants to submit a Medical School Admissions Test (MCAT) score as part of a medical school application unless the student already has an MCAT score, has an appointment to write the MCAT or is a citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States.
Therefore, students can apply for provisional acceptance into the SGU School of Medicine upon applying to Laurier, anytime during their undergraduate studies or up to five (5) years after graduation. SGU application fees are waived, and the partnership’s benefits will automatically be recognized. A Laurier student with provisional acceptance into the SGU School of Medicine will be fully admitted by SGU into their medical program upon receiving the Medical Foundations Partnership Option and graduating with either a three- or four-year Bachelor's degree.
A Laurier student who does not receive a provisional acceptance upon application, but a “deferred decision” will be provided with feedback and resources to use if they choose to apply again.
American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC)
The American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) highly recommends the MCAT, but it is not required unless applicants are citizens or Permanent Residents of the United States or have previously written the MCAT. Before applying for a conditional acceptance from AUC, students must complete all but two (2) of the following Medical Foundations Partnership Option courses: BI110, BI111, CH110 (or CH130), CH111 (or CH131), CH202 (or CH206), CH203 (or CH207 or CH250), MA100 (or one of MA101, MA102, MA103), PC141 (or PC131). The two incomplete courses cannot be in the same discipline (such as Biology).
When eligible, Laurier students apply directly to the AUC School of Medicine. AUC’s application fees are waived, and the partnership's benefits are automatically recognized. Graduates can use this pathway to apply to AUC up to five (5) years after graduation.
