Honours Bachelor of Music (Self-Directed Studies) with Metalworks, Audio Production and Engineering Diploma

Laurier–MWI Audio Production and Engineering Diploma Program Structure

Laurier has a partnership agreement through which Laurier students can complete the Honours BMus in Self-Directed Studies at Laurier and the Audio Production and Engineering Diploma Program at Metalworks Institute (15.0 credits at Laurier and 5.0 credits at MWI, of which at least 10.5 credits are Laurier Music courses and at least 3.5 credits are Laurier non-Music courses). WLU students attend at least six full terms of study at Laurier, and 3 terms of study at MWI, beginning at MWI in either in January of year 2 (attending Winter-Spring-Fall), or at the start of year 3 (attending Fall–Winter–Spring).

In order to be eligible to begin their studies at MWI, students admitted to WLU will complete at least 7.5 credits at Laurier, including the core requirements of the Self-Directed Studies program (MU100, MU136°, MU137°, MU161, MU162, MU181, MU190A, MU266) and at least 1.5 non-music elective credits.

  • Completion of MU266 shall exempt students from taking Terms 1 and 2 of MUS3070T at MWI
  • Completion of MU121 shall exempt students from taking “Musical Styles and Genres” MUS3010T at MWI
  • Completion of MU251T shall exempt students from taking AUD2030T at MWI

    The fixed diploma program in Audio Production and Engineering at MWI shall award 5.0 credits toward the Self-Directed Studies concentration at Laurier, as follows:
  • 1.0 Credits of coursework in Culture and Society (BUS1000T, BUS1100T, BUS1030T, MUS3010T)
  • 0.5 Credits of coursework in Style and Structure (MUS3110T and Term 3 of MUS3070)
  • 3.0 Credits of coursework in Production and Performance (AUD2000T, AUD2150P, AUD2020T, AUD2120P, AUD2030T, AUD2170T, AUD2180T, AUD2190P, AUD2110P), and
  • 0.5 Credits of coursework in non-music electives (AUD2010T, AUD2040T)

  • In order to complete their degree requirements, in addition to the requirements noted above, students shall complete:

  • At least 1.0 credit of applied study (x90A or x96 courses) at the 200-level or above
  • Including all credits above, at least 3.0 MU credits at the 300- level or higher, and at least 1.0 MU credit at the 400-level
  • Music or Non-music elective credits to total 15.0 credits of coursework earned at Laurier
  • No more than 0.5 credit from the MU442–444 series courses may be applied toward the concentration
