Sociology
The Sociology Department at Laurier is characterized by a strength in the area of Equity and Social Justice. A core course on Social Inequality as well as the large number of upper-level course offerings, in areas such as human rights, social movements, race and ethnic relations, gender relations, health, family, and disability, reflect this strength and the varied research areas of the faculty in the department. The aim of the program is to help students gain a better understanding of contemporary social issues, and to provide them with the theoretical, methodological, and writing skills to analyse and engage with these issues. Students are thus prepared for employment in, among other things, policy research and human service work. The program also prepares students to enter graduate studies in sociology and after-degree programs in social work, education, criminal justice, and law.
