0.5 Credit

Hours per week:
  • Lecture/Discussion: 3

Games have the power to motivate and engage players. Gamification is the use of elements from games to motivate users to engage with non-game settings. Game-based learning uses playful activities designed to bring about learning outcomes. This theory-based course will explore different methods of gamification and game-based learning and compare them using the framework of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. This is not a programming class, and no prior game design experience is required.
