0.5 Credit
Hours per week:
- Lecture/Discussion: 3
Explores how fashion functions as communication: as a way of encoding/decoding meanings about the body (age, gender, sexuality, race), culture (religion, nationality, tradition, and modernity), and society (class organization and social stratification). We will explore fashion in relation to topics such as colonialism, advertising, globalization, sustainability, youth cultures, law, leisure, and labour. Students will develop skills in analyzing and discussing fashion as production, consumption, symbolic text, and social practice.
