CS361
Design as Visual Communication
0.5 Credit

Hours per week:
  • Lecture/Discussion: 3

Our world is filled with and shaped by designed objects. The things we do and the beliefs we hold are mediated by conventions in design practice that we visually consume. Taking a systemic approach, visual communication is understood as process whereby communicators selectively choose socially salient elements within systems of options to accomplish communicative goals. Accordingly, the role of colour, layout, typography, iconography, shape, materials, and other choices are explored as resources for visual meaning-making.
