Digital Intimacies
0.5 Credit
Hours per week:
- Lecture/Discussion: 3
Surveys the conjunction of intimacy and digital culture. Drawing on both communication studies and cultural studies concepts and frameworks, the course examines different approaches to critical intimacies—close connections that matter, and upon which people build their lives and experiences. It addresses both digital sexualities (e.g., online sexual subcultures, sexting, the online pornography industry, and VR sex) and broader forms of intimacy in digital spaces (e.g., friending, fandoms, social media, video game relationships, and virtual communities).
