Determining the appropriate response to atrocities of gruesome scale, such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, is one of the most difficult tasks scholars and policymakers have had to tackle in post-conflict societies. This seminar introduces students to restorative and retributive mechanisms in communities transitioning from mass violence, such as truth and reconciliation commissions and war crimes trials.
