This course will introduce the concept of organic chemistry and explore how organic compounds impact our everyday lives. The course will critically examine concepts such as the distinction between natural and synthetic organic compounds, the basic structure of organic compounds, their prevalence in living organisms. The course will also explore the use of organic compounds in sectors ranging from the development of pharmaceuticals, dyes, to display technologies. This course is designed for non-majors and no prior knowledge of chemistry is required. This course will not count towards satisfying program requirements in programs offered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
