Indigeneity and Decolonization in Education

With a focus on teacher preparation, this course centres the experiences and perspectives of Indigenous Peoples in Canada from a historical and intersectional lens with regards to racism and historical and on-going systemic barriers. Topics such as residential schools, settler colonialism, allyship, solidarity, and decolonization are examined. Classroom and pedagogical strategies from strength-based approaches are discussed to resist and reform unjust educational practices and advance equitable outcomes for Indigenous learners and communities.
