Throughout this course Teacher Candidates will explore the Ontario Junior/Intermediate Health and Physical Education Curriculum, and related health and physical education theories and teaching models. The course topics enhance physical and health literacy through inquiry into physical activity and motor competence, physical health and safety, healthy relationships, and sexual health. This course will also include an overview of the most common mental health issues impacting grades 4-10 students, as well as the roles of different professionals within a multidisciplinary model, resources available to educators, and ways in which teachers can promote mental well-being as part of their everyday practice. Teacher Candidates will also examine the influence of culture on emerging planning and instructional choices/decisions for inclusion in health and physical education among diverse populations.
