Hours per week:
  • Lecture/Discussion: 3

This course provides opportunity for discussion and reflection on language and concepts surrounding gender and sexuality. Drawing upon Queer Theory, the course will encourage the disruption of stereotypes, problematize limiting discourses, and provide expansive teaching practices that are inclusive and respectful of all identities. Throughout this course, you will be invited to consider how our gender and sexual identities shape and are shaped by institutions and curriculum – both written and enacted. The course will integrate children’s literature as entry points to discussion on gender and sexuality. By developing a greater sense of self and others, this course will foster empathy and bravery among educators to navigate sensitive conversations and establish classrooms that embrace all genders, sexualities, and families.
