This practicum course gives students practical skills in music teaching. Students learn to identify common issues in teaching beginners, demonstrate awareness of different teaching strategies, and apply them appropriately depending on the age/preparation level. Practicum students acquire tools to successfully handle a variety of challenges that arise in a studio lesson setting, including interpersonal, technical, and lesson planning. Students reflect on their work, and identify areas of strengths and weaknesses, thereby developing strategies to improve their teaching process. Students observe lessons of the Supervising Teacher (ST) and keep a reflective journal of the progress of two pupils and the STís teaching strategies.
