Environmental Education for a Sustainable Future
0.25 Credit

Hours per week:
  • Lecture/Discussion: 3

This course engages teacher candidates in exploring how environmental education can be integrated across the curriculum through a multi-disciplinary, systems thinking approach. The course promotes active, experiential, and outdoor learning, and some class time is spent connecting with the natural environment within local contexts. There is a particular focus on social and ecological justice, and human relationships with the environment are examined through the lens of multiple knowledge systems, including Indigenous knowledges and ways of being. The overall aim is to deepen teacher candidates’ ecological literacy and sense of care for the environment, develop their ability to think critically about environmental issues, and learn to support youth in responding to the climate crisis as active citizens working towards a more sustainable future.
