MU461 provides an introduction to post-tonal theory. It explores the application of post-tonal theoretical concepts to analysis of post-tonal and twelve-tone music dating from the first half of the twentieth century. The course introduces pitch- class set theory and faciliates acquisition of skill in pitch-class set analysis.
