This course focuses on the United Nations as an institution at the centre of a broad system of global governance. It addresses: the structure and functioning of the United Nations,the complementary role played by regional institutions like the European Union and Organization of American States,introductory international relations theory, and the role these institutions play in addressing human rights as well as other global issues like peace and security, economic development,and environmental protection. Assessment will include a policy paper assignment.
