0.5 Credit

Hours per week:
  • Lecture/Discussion: 2
  • Tutorial/Seminar: 1

This course takes thematic and problems-based approaches to uncover untold histories that seek to challenge popular historical narratives about post-contact North America. Topics may include the historical diversity in Indigenous Turtle Island; contact zones; trade and spiritual encounters between Indigenous and newcomer peoples; colonial warfare; law and justice in New France; and power and politics in British North America. HI111 will also expose students to the ways in which historians construct arguments, use evidence, and interpret and represent multiple perspectives on the past. {C,P}
