Spanish Phonetics & Phonology

Taught  in  Spanish. This  course  introduces  students  to the  acoustics  and  articulation  of sounds  in  Spanish  and  the  many  variations  that  exist  across  dialects. In  the  first  part, students  learn  about  the  Spanish  vowel  and  consonant  systems  along  with  stress  and intonation patterns. They reflect on and improve their own pronunciation and knowledge of how to use and modify sounds in Spanish by examining how sounds change depending on their environment. In the second part, students learn about how Spanish sounds vary across dialects and when they are in contact with other languages.
