Spanish Phonetics & Phonology
Taught in Spanish. This course introduces students to the acoustics and articulation of sounds in Spanish and the many variations that exist across dialects. In the first part, students learn about the Spanish vowel and consonant systems along with stress and intonation patterns. They reflect on and improve their own pronunciation and knowledge of how to use and modify sounds in Spanish by examining how sounds change depending on their environment. In the second part, students learn about how Spanish sounds vary across dialects and when they are in contact with other languages.
