Foundations of Music Psychotherapy

This course introduces music psychotherapy practice through the investigation of diverse client populations, treatment models and therapeutic orientations within a variety of clinical contexts. The study of music psychotherapy focuses on therapeutic competencies and interventions required for culturally-relevant and ethical clinical practice. Neurological foundations of music psychotherapy and medical music psychotherapy practices are introduced. Contemporary theories, psychological foundations and psychotherapy approaches are integrated through case studies, readings, and experiential demonstration.
