Seminar in the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory

This course involves an intensive examination of contemporary developments in the area of the neurobiology of learning and memory. The course examines topics from molecular/genetic plasticity mechanisms at single neurons and synapses in model organisms to activation of specific brain regions during memory tasks in humans. Presentations and discussions integrate the most recent and high profile discovers in the field with key historical/foundational papers and controversies in order to develop a more rigorous understanding of memory from molecules to behavior. Determining the mechanisms by which memories are encoded by neurons and later retrieved has become one of the most intensely pursued subjects in neuroscience.
