SOJE202
Does Truth Matter? Science in the Age of Post-Truth
0.5 Credit

Hours per week:
  • Lecture/Discussion: 3

Scientific questions, like those about vaccines, climate change and the risks of Covid-19, have become political.  Science claims to have an objective method to discover truths about the world.  Why then, is there so much disagreement about the truth?  Why can't people agree about facts? The course examines the difference between legitimate disagreements over the truth, and misleading “pseudo-science”; as well as why it is not always easy to tell the difference. The course assumes no previous knowledge of science.
