The formulation, analysis and interpretation of mathematical models in various areas of application. Possible topics include population modelling, fluid mechanics, classical and quantum systems, reactiondiffusion models, neural networks, discrete optimization, and signal and image processing. Mathematical techniques may include differential and difference equations, PDEs, Fourier analysis, optimization, game theory, calculus of variations, and numerical methods. Topics covered may vary from year to year.
