The course explores principles and basic concepts of both substantive and procedural criminal law of Canada. Students will study a variety of topics, including the sources of criminal law, classification of offences, elements of criminal and regulatory offences, extensions of criminal liability, criminal defences, the adversarial process, criminal investigation, trial procedure, sentencing, appeals and review.
