The purpose of this course is to provide students with an introduction to the various components of Canadian constitutional law, and to the basic principles necessary for understanding and applying the provisions of the constitution in legal practice. The course explores the natures and sources of the Canadian constitution and procedures for amending the constitution. It also examines issues of the federal natures of the Canadian state, the role of the judiciary, principle of constitutional interpretation, division of legislative powers, rights and freedoms protected by the Canadian constitution.
