This course surveys the historical development of English public law and constitutional traditions from Anglo-Saxon times to the end of the Stuart dynasty in 1714. Emphasis will be placed on the specific political, social, and religious contexts in which key constitutional and legal documents were created, as well as the ongoing development of the Common Law, judicial and legislative institutions, and the legal profession.{P}
