War, Conflict & Rebellion in the Middle Ages, 730-1500

This course will examine a number of major conflicts that helped shape medieval society and determine not only the future development of Europe but also, to some extent, the rest of the world. Case studies will include not only military and political struggles, but also clashes between ideas and social conflicts involving class and gender. In the process, we will also consider how historians have themselves disputed with one another regarding some of these episodes. {P}
