Interventions with Children and Adolescents
0.5 Credit

Using a lens of equity and empowerment, this course explores social work practice with children and families in diverse practice settings. Theories of child development from infancy to adolescence are explored. Skills to conduct an in-depth assessment of unique challenges that may arise for children and their families including but not limited to anxiety, trauma, loss, abuse and suicide are emphasized. This course provides students an opportunity to critically consider how strengths-based and social justice perspectives, diversity and social justice with diverse groups apply to their work with children and families. There are opportunities throughout the course to consider and critique a variety of contemporary and traditional theories and other social work interventions for the healing of children within their contexts.
