Class and Work: Legal and Economic Perspectives

This course considers social, economic and legal factors which impact our jobs, our communities and larger concerns of social and environmental justice. It highlights the role of class analysis to examine various public policies (such as markets and regulations) and economic trends (such as the rise of precarious work) that impact labour markets. A variety of case studies focused primarily on young workers’ experience of labour markets will examine how social, economic and legal influences have important consequences ranging from unemployment, deregulation and wage stagnation to larger social and environmental justice issues such as rising inequality and environmental racism.
