A multi-disciplinary introduction to some key concepts and theories used in global studies to understand humans as social and cultural beings. Emphasis is placed on the impacts of European imperialism and colonialism on cultures and on the concepts available for thinking about these issues. The course addresses topics such as cosmology, religion, kinship, gender, race, modernity, nationhood, liberalism, and the politics of cultural recognition. (Cross-listed as RE221.)
