The purpose of this course is to provide learning experiences that will lead to understanding the phenomenon of violence and the sacred in sports. Games are to be considered as a substitute to martial and social violence. This is an introduction to some of the leading theories of violence and the sacred and their application to the domain of sport. From confrontation on the field to hooliganism, violence will be studied from both social and performative perspectives.
