The Critical Turn in Criminology
0.5 Credit

This is an advanced seminar course that examines criminological theories since the "critical turn" in the social sciences. Emphasis is placed on theories that problematize the definition of crime, the operation of the criminal justice system and the discipline of criminology itself. Issues of power, marginalization and repression are central to the material covered. Theories covered may include Marxist and critical criminology, feminist criminology, interactionist and social constructionist approaches, critical race theory, postmodernism and poststructuralism.
