TH663Q
Play Therapy from a Holistic Perspective
0.5 Credit

This course provides foundational knowledge of Play Therapy, Play Therapy history and the therapeutic powers of play. Faith, spirituality and the importance of integrating culturally appropriate resources/practices and Indigenous Ways of knowing into the psychotherapy experience will be discussed. Underpinning these is an understanding that oppression, power and social injustice affect the child, youth, family, community, therapist and therapeutic process. The importance of assessing developmental functioning will be investigated by revisiting ecological, developmental and attachment theories (including the neuro-sequential model of therapeutics). This knowledge informs the Play Therapy model and mode utilized in treatment. Students will personally experience utilizing genograms, ecomaps, tree of life, life books, life story work and timelines with a view of applicability in the Play Therapy assessment or treatment process.
