Doctoral Pastoral Counselling Studies: Marital Therapy and Pastoral Counselling

Based on Marital Dynamics and Pastoral Care, this course focuses more specifically on the therapy process and addresses the following areas: assessment of marital relationships and conflict styles including triangulation patterns, sexual counselling, separation and divorce counselling, mediation counselling, and an overview of different approaches in marital therapy including Behavioural Marital Therapy and Communication Training, and analytical as distinct from structural/strategic schools of orientation. The objective is to provide the student with an extensive introduction to the process and issues of marital therapy from an integrative perspective. Attention will be given to pastoral and religious concerns. (For DMin students only.)
