Indigenous Child Welfare Policy and Practice

This course prepares students to understand the Indigenous and Canadian historical and political contexts of child welfare policy and practice grounded in Indigenous philosophies and worldviews. Western social work theoretical knowledge of child welfare policy and practice will be interrogated within a decolonizing context and critical analysis in recognition of Indigenous centred policy and practice. Indigenous knowledges will be presented as foundational to Indigenous jurisdiction and governance of child welfare.
