Safe and Effective Use of Self in Music Psychotherapy Settings
Through the exploration of group analytic music therapy and supervision, students present their own case material and learn to apply knowledge of the therapist's self on the psychotherapeutic process. The interplay between musical and verbal evaluation is a crucial facet of the course, and students learn to structure and facilitate the therapeutic process by observing verbal and musical group psychotherapy interventions. Both musical and psychotherapeutic processes are analyzed. The safe and effective use of self in the therapeutic relationship, vicarious and secondary traumatization, compassion fatigue, and burn out are explored.
