MU505
Foundations of Music Psychotherapy
0.5 Credit

This course defines the philosophical foundations, theory and methods of music psychotherapy, and introduces a clinical framework based upon Group Analytic Music Therapy (GAMT). By placing music psychotherapy theories within the overall context of music psychotherapy approaches, students learn and experience psychodynamic influences and their impact on music therapy, and integrate knowledge of key concepts common to all psychotherapy practice. Course materials include theory, clinical case examples and discussion from required texts. This course is linked to students' developing clinical work in Music Psychotherapy Placement I (MU504).
