This course provides students with a critical introduction to the interdisciplinary field of biopolitics, by focusing on key texts, concepts, and debates involving central theorists in biopolitics. Generally, the course begins with an examination of Michel Foucault's central statements on biopolitics. The remainder of the course covers central texts that have developed Foucault's problematic written by prominent contemporary biopolitical theorists. This general introduction provides students with the opportunity to pursue their specific research interests through the course materials.
