PO620
The Politics of Social Policy in an Era of Globalisation
0.5 Credit

This course explores the politics of social policy in Canada and across the world in an era of globalisation. The first part of the course explores scholarly debates on the comparative study of welfare regimes (the varying ways states, markets, families and non-profit agencies deal with social risks), examining changes to these wrought by globalisation. The second part of the course shifts emphasis away from the scholarly literature towards a more applied focus on social policy in practice, which might include, for example, an examination of the OECD, social protection floor and/or child care/early childhood development policy.
