Community-Based Participatory Research Theory
0.5 Credit

Community-based participatory research (CBPR) utilizes approaches and processes that embrace research, education and action cycles for the purposes of enhancing community health, well-being and quality of life. CBPR seeks to empower individuals and communities: through engaging in research, a critical consciousness develops that improves the lives of those involved in the research and has the potential to transform societal structures and relationships. This advanced doctoral seminar examines theoretical aspects of CBPR and provides students with opportunities to critically reflect on its value as a social change strategy for community psychologists.
