PO489
Global Political Economy in Turbulent Times
0.5 Credit

Hours per week:
  • Lecture/Discussion: 3

The (mostly) open, liberal international economy constructed since World War II is widely seen to be facing an existential crisis. The global financial crisis, the election of Donald Trump, and the rise of populism in Europe have cast doubt on the commitment to economic openness of western countries, while the growing power of non-western states – most notably China – has changed the contours of world politics. This course explores contemporary trends in the global political economy and the prospects for significant conflict and transformation in the years to come.
