Political Leadership and Citizenship in Canada

Canadian citizens can bring about political and policy change in both formal and informal ways. This course examines political leadership in Canada to introduce students to the specific opportunities available to citizens to bring about political change. In addition, it examines ways in which non-elected citizens can constrain leaders through political institutions, laws and the constitution. Theories of political leadership, change, accountability and structure will be illustrated with examples of the biographies of Canadian political leaders (in politics and outside of politics) and of Canadian political structures.
