This course critically examines the legal and social dimensions of family law in Canada. Students will examine how family law doctrine defines and regulates ‘familial' relationships and the rights and obligations that exist within these relationships. Topics may include law's relationship to shifting definitions of family, child custody and protection, distribution of property and power, and violence.
