Giants of Capitalism: The New Retail Economy

This course will examine retail capitalism as a new economic form pioneered largely by companies such as Wal~Mart, Amazon, Costco and others, exploring these practices within the neoliberal era. It will also consider the impact they have on work life, community, the environment and other areas, and how various social groups have attempted to reshape and/or resist big retail’s encompassing visions of its corporate presence.
